Crown Health Care Laundry is proud to announce that our Lakeland plant passed a recent Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC) inspection with zero deficiencies. This incredible accomplishment is a testament to our dedication to quality.
We began preparing for this inspection back in February. It’s extremely important to us that we are always within HLAC and Infection Control guidelines. The Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council is a nonprofit organization that inspects and accredits laundries that process textiles for healthcare facilities.
One of the main things we focused on in preparation for the inspection was plant cleanliness and organization. Employees who know where everything is are more efficient in the workplace. The janitorial department has a schedule of specific cleaning tasks to complete nightly. This checklist covers tasks both big and small to ensure nothing is overlooked. Every morning, we went through the checklist and did a physical inspection.
Safety is our main priority, and we don’t take it lightly. In preparation for the inspection, we conducted daily safety meetings to train new employees. We took a hands-on approach, giving employees the chance to see examples of what we were talking about and ask questions.
Supervisors were also trained to make sure everything on the production floor was running smoothly. If an employee wasn’t doing something properly, training was conducted on the spot.
The last step in preparation for the inspection was to have a mock audit and walkthrough. We looked at past inspections to test our processes. We held weekly inspections with the management team to see where we could improve.
On the day of the inspection, we quizzed employees to make sure they were prepared. The inspector was at our Lakeland plant for 5 hours. He looked through our detailed records and reviewed our practices to make sure they were being performed the way we wrote them down.
He then inspected various areas of our plant for cross contamination. For example, he made sure the plant had negative air flow to the soil room and that employees were using hand sanitizer. He found no violations, even after checking every truck door at the plant.
Finally, he spoke with our employees. 85 employees were interviewed and all of them answered his questions accurately and in detail. They were able to point out the storm shelter and evacuation routes and they also knew how to handle possible sharps and other dangers. He was particularly impressed by our Production Operators and their dedication to safety and cleanliness.
We are proud to have passed our HLAC inspection with flying colors, and we couldn’t have done it without all of our team members. The inspector stated that out of 12 years of doing inspections, Crown Health Care Laundry’s Lakeland plant was only the second perfect score he had ever given.
